No phones on Saturday night/Sunday morning

Written by Darren in Scheduled maintenance at 11:44am, Sat 22 May 2010

A quick note from us to let you know that due to a scheduled power outage we will be operating without phones in the Customer Service team on Saturday night from 10pm, right through the night until 8am on Sunday morning.

It’s not anything to do with Trade Me, there are some power guys coming in to muck about with meters in our building down on the Wellington waterfront. We will still be answering emails, but we won’t be available to take phone calls.

(By the way, we won’t be sitting in the dark answering emails, we will be relocating the team to another building for the night.)

Sidebar search suggestions

We now offer search suggestions for all categories that include sidebar searches. This feature automatically suggests helpful keyword matches when you type.

For example, if you start typing ‘sales’ into the keywords field within Trade Me Jobs, you’ll see up to 10 suggestions from our most frequently-searched sales roles, including ‘sales rep’, ‘sales manager’ and ‘sales assistant’.

Database dig: Top 20 Trade Me searches

Written by Paul in General at 12:59pm, Wed 19 May 2010

Nothing too earth-shattering here today: just some search info for the general Trade Me site (i.e. not Trade Me Motors or Jobs or Property).

Changes to Gallery pricing

Written by the Trade Me Team in General at 9:16am, Tue 18 May 2010

From 26 May, the cost to promote a listing with Gallery will change for some categories.

For around half our categories, the price will drop from 55c to 35c. For the other half of our categories, the price will rise from 55c to 75c. Gallery for Books and CDs will stay at 25c, while Mobile phone accessories will drop from 55c to 25c.

So why are we changing the pricing? We've always tried to keep our pricing simple, so we thought hard before making this change. More...

Privacy: Put your oar in

Written by Paul in General at 10:16am, Thu 13 May 2010

Chances are if you’re interested in the internet, you’re also interested in privacy.

It’s a topic we take really seriously, and last week Jon, our CEO, spoke at a Privacy Commission forum – part of Privacy Awareness Week. We also recently sent through a submission to the Law Commission on the current review of the Privacy Act.

To ensure that all Kiwis get the chance to have a say and share their thoughts, the guys at the Law Commission are looking for more submissions, and have extended the deadline through to the end of May. If you have an interest in privacy you can still send in your thoughts, either as an individual or as the representative of a company.  More...
