Extra rare large display sized antique French chocolate mould featuring a massive African bull elephant standing gracefully in the grass. Can also be used for ice cream! Cool!

This beautiful mold was made in France and dated to 1910 - 1926 based on styling and metalware. These moulds are increasingly hard to find and more and more valuable, given that they’re now 100 years old already and were replaced by polycarbonate and other materials in the 50’s and 60’s. A century old treasure to delight the kids at family gatherings by or for children’s birthday cakes.

Photos also show 2 recent sales overseas of same item ($813 & $597!!) and size compared to one of my smaller elephant moulds (not incl.).

This mould is one of the larger ones and measures 25cm across and 22cm tall!! Exterior has stunning dark copper toned patina with some age app. flaking in parts makes for a dramatic finish. Interior has some fading of tin lining and given age would not recommend using for edible choco, candies or ice cream but that’s up to buyer. You can use for candle making, gifting wax figurines or chalk ware. Otherwise they make fantastic deco in rustic cottage kitchen or villa setting.

Sommet, E., Paris, France: 1882-1962.  Sommet’s mark was a “dancing dolphin,” reminiscent of a renaissance stylized dolphin, shaped like an S.  On some of his molds you might find a diamond with a number inside indicating the year the mold was made or stamped with an “L”  (Liter) followed by a number.  R molds that were marked with the “L” were made to be used for both chocolate and ice cream and the number referred to the number of liters of ice ceam it takes to fill the mold.
