NZ-German Tourist Set with the 10 C / $1 Mule 2004, and a 2nd Major Mint Error.

This is a sealed number of obsolete UNC New Zealand coins in a German Tourist Set with Polynesian Motives .

It contains the 5 C 2004, the 10 C 2004, the 20 C 2004, the 50 C 2005, and the 1 $ 2003. The 1 Dollar coin is still current.

Mint errors:

Usually some of the coins in such sets have mint errors. Here in this set I found

10 Cent 2004:

A short spike off the Queen's nose, and a double rim on the obverse. This was caused by a major mint error: A mule of the $1 2004 die with the 10 C 2004 die. See Jason Gray, 2004 10 Cents/$1 Mule identified, The New Zealand Numismatic Journal, no. 95, December 2015, p. 4 to 6 + cover page.

50 C 2005:

A tiny spike off the Queen's nose, and on the reverse a long die crack r. of the right sail. A major error!

History of this set : It was made in Germany, and intended for the Central European tourist market. The un-circulated coins inside came from the NZ Reserve Bank in original mint bags. Travel agents could give their clients an impression of the NZ coins, and some information about NZ, including a map of the Pacific region before their departure. Soon after these sets were made NZ changed their small coinage and the sets were useless for the original purpose. So they found their way into the numismatic world.

This "German-NZ" set is an interesting addition for NZ set collectors.

Condition :

UNCIRCULATED, but there may be bag marks.
