FREE FLYING TALKING BIRD MISSING!
Much loved MORRIS talked with people and was photo'd for Facebook several times at Mangere Bridge. He'd been transported there by an unknown driver, far away from his Ponsonby home. A few days later he was sitting on heads and shoulders of delighted people at Blockhouse Bay Beach reserve. He was possibly trying to navigate home, and may still be trying. At that stage he was halfway home "as the bird flies"
If he lands on your shoulder, please try to walk him inside, or get back into your car with him, and shut him inside till we can get there. If he wont come inside, keep him engaged in conversation. He is a great talker. Say his name "Morris" "Good bird" and "Would you like something yummy to eat?" "Water?" Offer almost anything; he will probably be half starving as he has been missing from his Ponsonby territory for a long time now, and will have been finding it difficult getting enough protein, unless someone kind is feeding him. He can eat anything except citrus, avocado skins and beef which are harmful. Favourite foods: mealy worms, cheese, insects, munched nuts, and he enjoys different fruits at different times.
Please look at Youtube videos including "Morris the Mynah" "Morris's road trip to Dunedin" "Morris Mynah TV3." (and numerous others) for more information.
Morris is a free flying bird. His "parents" (us), are anxious that someone may be innocently holding him in a cage or aviary (v. sad!). Morris has his own territory around our house/garden. He doesnt mix with other mynahs, and will be sad missing his home and fan club around Ponsonby.
If you hear of anyone with a new talking bird in their garden, or one that they just "found" somewhere, or that landed on them, please contact us.Thank you for helping out.
Morris made a mistake getting into someones vehicle, but is a capable, semi-independent bird, and very courageous. He stands a good chance of making it back to his home eventually. Please help him if you can.
