Description
This is a beautiful piano from the early 1900’s that has been in our family since the 1930's. I am downsizing, and am reluctantly letting it go. It really needs to go to someone who will give it the love it deserves. For it's age, it's in decent shape. It came over from the US, and has moved around a bit, so has some nicks in it's finish, and a burn on it's top from a candle which melted a bit of finish, but it should restore beautifully with it's barbershop style legs. It's never had a full restoration, but last time I tuned it, it kept it’s tune quite well considering. I had it tuned 10 years ago before moving to my current location, so it definitely could use a tune up now.
It plays well, and has a unique sound that I quite like, but for it to play as new, it should have new hammers, dampers, bushings, and the internal parts cleaned out. It should then be properly regulated so the touch is functional and correct.
The ivories on the keys were replaced 17 years ago, along with new wheels. To give you an idea of what it sounds like, have a watch of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SG548Z73nQY . Mine is slightly brighter because it's hammers have not been replaced, but the sound is quite similar.
My father had it valued in the early 1980's,and at that time it was valued at 20K USD. Since then, it has moved around a bit, hence the need for a bit of refinishing, and it's insides have aged of course. Then the purchaser will need to hire professional piano movers so that it's moved properly, I now live in a house in Carterton on flat ground, so no hills or steps to deal with! :-)
I am putting a low reserve on it, so it will definitely be a great deal for whoever ends up with it. I’ve always loved the detailed twisted legs and inlays. They just don't make them like this anymore! The photos show the top only lifted half way, but it lifts fully, and all pedals work fine.
