• These speakers caught my eye due to their wire mesh grills...something that reminded me of my great experiences with the German Brand "Canton" in the 70's...it was quite different to the "all cloth" grills then...and their sound was different too...crystal clear with tight punchy bass !!
• Well these Sanyo's are not in THAT league...but they look the part :)...they do sound crystal clear and clean with "accurate" bass ..not "hollow" and "boomy" like most of these type of speakers. Its heavily padded inside with thick rolled up sponge.. I did took out some ..yes more bass but it added more "hollowness" which I did not like ..so its sounds BEST with its padding :).. Not for bass lovers but for critical- fine- detail listeners ?... YES :)
• You will get a matching pr of medium size SANYO SX 50 bookshelf speakers. I resprayed the mess grills and cleaned the rest so now both are say 7 to 8/10 cosmetically. Sound wise both sounds crystal clear and clean (see notes above).
• When I got them one bass driver did not work (now marked with a red dot). On inspection I saw that work was done on that speaker and in the process the plastic face plate mountings on the tweeter was broken in a few places (to get it out ?) and repairs was done to the X-over board which was cracked. The bass driver was fine but could not get signal via the X- over so I wired it directly to the input terminal and both speakers now sounds the same.
