• This tile is pre-owned but looks like new. The tile was made in Sid's early days - the sides are his classic textured plaster with coffee-toned antique patina. See last photo for example. The front and sides are in excellent condition.

About the Artist Twenty-three years ago, Sid Dickens - a commercial fisherman turned artist - came up with an idea that would change his life. A 15cm x 20cm tile, a talent for design and a vision. That's all it took for the Canadian artist to develop the Memory Blocks: the handcrafted tiles which have made their way into homes around the world including those of celebrities Sir Elton John, Liv Tyler and Sting. The Memory Blocks are now internationally distributed and Dickens has a strong following of collectors that create websites and forums on his behalf. The marketing strategy is similar to Lladro and Royal Doulton porcelain figurines, where styles and collections are often produced in limited runs, and retired pieces are highly valued and very collectible.

About the Memory Blocks Each Memory Blocks is poured hydrostone plaster that has been hand painted, then finished to a porcelain-like quality and cracked to create an aged look and feel. It takes over 5 people to finish one piece, making each one an individual collectible treasure. Innovative finishes are achieved by his own process of working through experimentation with an unusual combination of materials and techniques. For some of the designs he has invented his own glazing formulas - structured to emphasize and challenge specific attributes of plaster and to respond to each piece's unique architectural volume.
