Solid brass ships engine room telegraph Made by Begg and Creig Pty Ltd of Sydney in the 1940’s Dimensions 330mm diameter, full depth 280mm Weight approx. 25 to 30 kgs It belonged to one of two minesweepers built in Australia and purchased later by the NZ Navy in 1952. The Inverell was built in 1942 and the Kiama built in 1944. We know it came from one of these two boats but don’t know which one It was designed to be wall mounted in the engine room Both the ’Forward’ and ’Reverse’ chime mechanisms are still operative Still requires a little more cleaning and polishing Proceeds from the auction go towards the continued restoration of the steam ferry Toroa, so please bid generously
