1985 Toyota Sprinter AE82 GT
$3,510
Description
Purchased NZ new by my dad in 1994 from Lower Hutt with only 40,000kms in the clock. It became my mums daily drive in the 2000s and then finally to me once I learnt to drive (which explains the 3 owners noted on this listing).
This car has a lot of sentimental value to my family as it took me to preschool, school, college and was the first car I learnt to drive in. It’s given us amazing memories over 30 years.
The AE82 is a very rare find across New Zealand, let alone a sedan version like this in manual. The car remains original and has not had any modifications other than a pioneer stereo system and speakers which were installed in 1994 too.
Car has been garaged all its 30 years except for 6 months last year (where it was outside but covered). It’s been regularly serviced by two key organisations (Rutherford and Bond Toyota and Shocks Brakes and Tyres), and Toyota has maintained almost all of its history since 1994.
Features:
- Manual transmission
- Pioneer stereo system (from 1994)
- Electric mirrors
- Electric windows
- Original spare wheel, jack and toolkit
- Foglights (replaced in 2023)
- Strut brace
- Serviced March 2024
Although she is mechanically sound, she’s experienced a few imperfections over recent years, and as much as I have tried to stay on top of it I have a young family and other priorities. Car failed warrant in March due to rust on rear guard and spots on left hand side of boot (WOF sheet provided in photos for transparency).also a couple of oil leaks which were quoted at $161 per hour to fix. Sadly I don’t have the time or resources to find second hand parts or pay a welder to remediate the identified issues.
Apart from the rust identified during the WOF she drives well and was been driven almost daily.
Given how rare a car this is, it would be a great project for someone to take on and get her back into great condition or (worst case) use her to support current AE82 projects. Selling as is.
Hope she goes to a home where she can last another 30 years.

Sorry the last service / wof sheet does not have a lot of detail on the oil leak but it’s quoted at $161 an hour to fix by Toyota. From memory they said it was pretty minor / easy fix but I can call them this week to see if they have any further notes. The leak wasn’t WOF related though, just something they picked up during the March 2024 service. ashsham311 (46 • Saturday, 25 May 2024 )More photos added as at today Seller comment Sunday, 26 May 2024 Man I'd love to find something like this here in Australia, that complete interior and electrics would make their way into my poverty spec Aust twincam hatch.. h***6 (0 • 1:34 am, Tue, 28 May )Hey mate - this one is definitely far too good to part out!
