Description

Our Speedster is reluctantly for sale. If you're after a rare classic vehicle of the Art Deco era, and a true head turner then this is your opportunity to own one. I have never had a car that generates so much interest, the car has won peoples choice, or been a category winner every time I have entered it in an event.
Featured in NZ Rodder magazine, issue 160, July 2016. We purchased the vehicle in the USA in 2010, after 4 years and that may-as-well syndrome thinking, we had completed, a rotisserie restoration. The rotisserie mods are too many to detail, as was the investment. The Speedster is powered by a 400hp Ford 351ci Cleveland built by Tony Marsh of Marsh Motorsport, the power is transferred to a Ford/Borg-warner FMX 3 speed transmission fitted with the appropriate clutch packs and shift kit. This drives through a Ford Galaxie differential. At the time of building these cars the chassis of choice was the Ford Galaxie. The rebuild included significant chassis modifications. All suspension, shocks, brakes, exhaust, gauges, fuel lines, brake lines etc etc etc have been replaced, overhauled or chromed. The underside of the car is as detailed as the rest of the car. Full re-upholster in Italian leather by Richard Howe Upholstery.
Genuine buyers only please.

Questions & Answers

  • Hi, there is only one question to ask from someone from the lower South Island and that is, does it have a soft top and if so are you able to put up a photo, thanks Steve h******m (233)01:43 pm, Tue, 5 Mar Hi Steve. Thanks for the question. Yes I do have a soft top for it but they look ugly and spoil the look of the car, at the time of the rebuild I covered the mounting points for the top (I do have the measurements to remount). I do have a day cover in case you are out and a shower is chasing you. This covers the w/screen and cockpit. Hope this helps. Bryan cartman10 (116) • Tuesday, 5 March 2024

  • Hi, With the power of the current motor, I imagine the original brakes would be struggling. What sort of upgrade have they had? j********e (85)07:46 pm, Thu, 4 Apr Hi John. Appreciate your thoughts. Stops great. New discs and callipers up front and the Galaxie drums on the rear. All fed by a new dual mater cylinder and booster. The Auburn would be half the weight of a Galaxie cartman10 (116) • Thursday, 4 April 2024

  • Sorry to ask a tiresome question but...... for 40 years I've been quietly wondering where my neighbour's Auburn Speedster got to. Lost contact after we moved but he lived in Piha west coast of Auck. Was a genuine Auburn. I ask because it's a small world when you own these pieces of art and you may know. Good luck with your sale. Regards. Mark m***a (178)06:02 pm, Sat, 20 Apr Hi Mark. With cars of this nature and style nothing is tiresome. I have been advised from I believe an informed source that there is only one original 1936 speedster in the southern hemisphere, and believe that is in the South Island. That one came out of the US and was purchased for over $1ml US. Always happy to for further info if anyone. Cheers B cartman10 (116) • Saturday, 20 April 2024
  • I will check with my brother to see if my memory is playing tricks on me m***a (178)11:34 am, Sun, 21 Apr

They came out with a 4587cc straight 8 side valve engine which was supercharged. Keep plugging your brother for info. Cheers B cartman10 (116) • Sunday, 21 April 2024
  • Hi there, I was wondering if you wiuld be able to help, looking for a set of wire wheels that bolt directly on like yours.... Would you happen to know where I can track similar down? Thank you. Beautiful car, love it q******y (5)02:00 pm, Thu, 25 Apr Hi. Thanks for your enquiry. Very hard to come by. In saying that I have a couple of options. https://www.trademe.co.nz/trade-me-motors/car-parts-accessories/wheels-tyres/nonalloy-wheels/auction-4671114592.htm. The other option is Jokers Wild Kustoms. Hope this helps. Cheers Bryan. cartman10 (116) • Thursday, 25 April 2024
