Matai is looking for a new home. He is an arab x QH (3/4 arab?), 15.2hh gelding, born in 2006. I have had him since he was a 4year old, and have mostly hacked on the farm and beach, mostly at a walk and trot. He loves moving cattle and sheep. Will nip the sheep on the bum to make them move or even grab their wool and shove them forward. When moving cattle, especially down the beach, I let him go and he keeps the mob together. Will take off after ones that leave the mob and nip them on the rump to move them if he needs to. Hates deer though. In 2021 and 2023 I did a few short treks with him and he is a lovely forward ride. He also really enjoys mounted games. Saddle fitter fitted a saddle for him three years ago (14 years old), and said he had a strong back and it was in very good shape for his age. Because he hasn’t done much. Good for the farrier (cold shoeing only). Is a bit stiff in the right hip so doesn’t like to hold his hind legs too high or up for too long. But has never been lame. Good for the dentist. Doesn’t bolt, rear or buck.
Soft mouth. Reacts very well to leg aids and body position. Great with all ground handling. Great with other horses. Can lead off of him. Kind nature. Loves being washed and groomed lol. Location Barrytown, Greymouth
