/ RARE - made by predecessor of KPM /

This rare 9cm high miniature porcelain vase was produced in Berlin from the manufactory of Wilhelm Caspar Wegely, who operated for a very short time from 1751-57 after being granted an exclusive privilege by the king of Prussia.

When the monarch withdrew his patronage in 1657, Wegely decided not to continue production.

In 1761 Johann Ernst Gotzowsky acquired the porcelain formula as well as raw materials and moulds. He sold the factory to the king in 1763.

The factory got a new name: the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (Royal Porcelain Manufactory) - known as KPM and still operating today.

This example has hand-painted trailing flowers, leaves and tendrils down the outside.

There are still traces of gilt around the top edge, while most of it is still present around the base.

There is no maker mark, and no obvious cracks, chips or other defects.

These and similar vases were apparently difficult to produce. Almost all of the known examples display some firing faults and breakages, the repairs to which were probably carried out in the manufactory. written It still has inside it an original note (see photo) - perhaps by the previous owner.
