Description
Continuing with the weird and the wonderful this guitar is a 1968-ish Jaguar JA-500 Thin body.
Demo video of this guitar posted here: https://youtu.be/VlA8jkW4k0A
Jaguar brand guitars were sold by Nakai Gakki-Ten, a large wholesaler in Tokyo. They are thought to have been built by Suzuki Violin Ltd, Kiso. The range included hollowbody guitars and some Mosrite styles, (they do not seem to have ever made an actual Fender Jag copy however).
This one is styled loosely along the lines of the Goya Rangemaster 109-R made in Italy from the mid ‘60s. Same Florentine double cut body shape and stepped pickguard plus the unusual positioning of the F holes.
It’s a thin (just 37mm thick - bit like a Hofner ‘Verythin’), hollow body guitar with a nice checker style binding on the upper of the body. The rest of the body and the neck are also bound. The headstock has a 3-ply laminate top. The colour has faded nicely to a lovely yellowish cream. A few stress cracks in the finish, marks and chips but nothing of consequence.
Apart from some new Pots,Switch and Output Jack the guitar is all original. The intonation is good, tuners hold tune. The pick guard has a ‘Hi-Lo’ switch control cut into the pick guard itself.
Two nice strong, bright single coils give this guitar a good tonal range. The pots and jack have been replaced as per original and work great. Very comfortable 25" scale neck, low action is good. Nut width is 39mm and 50mm at the 12th fret.
So... it’s all working well and is good to go. A really cool guitar that would probably look rather nice in your rack.
