The Guyatone LG-120T – the freak sister to the far more common Guyatone LG-130T.

Guyatone only produced these for a short time 1965-6, seemingly in small numbers and in two variants, the only difference being in the pickups used and the colour of the pickguard.

These gats maybe more for the collectors? Quite rare, not even that common in Japan the guitar features a "rotating pickup" in the neck position. As far as I know this was an original design for Guyatone back in the day….. a design that no-one has since bothered to follow up on….Hmmm! You can set the screws on the rotating pickup to be just tight enough that you can still rotate it when you want to, ie. when you want to show off!

It has to be said that the actual sonic effect of twisting the pickup is, eh, subtle! There is also a sort of Mustang-like switching system…. if a Mustang had 3 pickups. Standard Vol and Tone augmented by a Solo/Rhythm switch and a Hot/Cool switch that give a range of variously usable tones!!

The guitar itself is in fair ‘well used’ condition – a lot of marks, scratches and some crazing cracks in the finish on the back and some tarnishing to the metal parts. All original save for two new pots and a new jack. The colour is a sort of dark red guava with a subtle gold flake in the finish.

The neck is straight and comfy (not a bat!), frets are fairly worn but ok, tuners are OK and it’s pretty cool to play but subtlety is not it’s thing - at least not in my hands although it could be said that my playing and subtlety have never really enjoyed a close relationship!

However you look at it, this is just one of those guitars that only seemed to happen in the 60s! Hang it on ya wall plug it in and make a racket.
