Description
Very cool early sixties Teisco EB-18 from about 1963-64, a time when the Japanese guitar industry was starting to realise that the demand for electric instruments was growing exponentially.
Demo video of this bass posted here: https://youtu.be/WriN1gyDbxc
Teisco had been making relatively small numbers of guitars. Starting with little more than lap steels played on the hip these guitars developed steadily thru the 1950’s drawing influence mainly from the American made Valco guitars such as National and Supro.
By the early 60’s the guitar boom was taking off and Japanese starting to produce bass guitars also, and of course, they looked towards Fender. Preceded only by the Teisco BS-101, a tiny ‘pocket’ bass, the EB-18 seems to be Teisco’s first full size bass, with a 33 1/2” scale neck, (same as Rickenbacker 4001 and similar) and it borrows the look of the Fender Tele/Precision bass.
Anyhow, here we are 60 odd years later and this bass has survived! It has certainly been played in that time but it is in great nick, has the typical ‘brown burst’ at the factory. It has had a re-fret and I have replaced the pots and jack, otherwise, all original, from the factory
The original PU is a monster with massive bottom end. I will try and get a demo done before the auction ends. Seriously cool!
Two piece aluminum pickguard. Solid Mahogany body and neck. Crude but adjustable bridge with original cover. Master Vol and Tone, the neck is and easy V shape and not too thick, cool fret markers and great frets and action. Very Telecaster-ish headstock complete with the Teisco logo badge. Pretty old school tuners but they work fine and hold tune.
Grungy, trashy punk bass and all that…..it all goes and it's awesome to play! It’ll be perfect for someone so have at it.
No case but will be packed VERY well for shipping.

Silly question but I can’t seem to see where a strap would be fitted…. n*******a (50 • 7:33 pm, Wed, 22 May )Ahhhhh....AHEM! Yeeesss, it does seem that my gnomes have neglected to replace the strap buttons before the pix were taken. This will be swiftly remedied...... DON'T employ pixies they said! Gnomes are more reliable! Goblins, apparently, (I was kinda keen on Goblins - figured we'd have a lot in common), are a complete 'no-no'! Gnomes are great, they said! Trustworthy, reliable and stackable. So I went with gnomes. They're OK but sorta dull with their stupid pointy hats.... wish I'd got Goblins! randombob (709 • Wednesday, 22 May 2024 )
