Description

The famous Yamaha FG 180 was first made around 1966 and the origional red label ones lasted till circa 1972 but in 1974 they changed the model number to carry a -1 and the labels were changed to black. The 180 guitar itself changed into the guitar in this listing. The neck was changed from Mahogany to Toog. The sardine can tuners were changed to enclosed tuners, the soundhole rosette changed and the 3 piece back was added. In short, a very different guitar. Ive installed a BridgeMagic and added a compensated bone saddle and chrome bridge pins. The photo of the neck shows how the polyurethane finish has oxidized from playing. It is not worn off. It is still completely smooth in feel. If you've ever seen live TV recordings of Neil Young or James Taylor, that's the ballpark in terms of sound. Soul licks also sound particulary sweet on this very 70's tone guitar. It's been set up with care and it plays beautifully. Great vintage guitar.

  • Hi, it's an Awesome sounding acoustic, I know I've got 1, with a very nice Bass response, not quite as boomy as a Martin but we're hey, fantastic looking, all the best for the auction, kind regards, Don s********y (404)10:14 am, Tue, 14 May Thank you Don. When they are set up well so they play as good as they sound, they are indeed a pleasure to use. westie777 (1179) • Tuesday, 14 May 2024
  • the pins look silver. What are they made of? k***l (63)5:42 pm, Sun, 19 May Chromed steel. It's amazing how much you can change and accentuate tone using different materials for bridge pins. Brass, rosewood, bone and steel all have different effects are all are notably better than plastic. westie777 (1179) • Sunday, 19 May 2024
