Japanese made Teisco KB-2 short scale bass (approx 1965-66) in great playable condition.

From late 1965, the Teisco Co launched a bunch of new design features: the K guitars with their hooked 4x2 head stocks, pointy body shapes and new hardware designs all made for a new look that culminated in the Teisco Spectrum 5…. If you have an original one of those….. well, lucky you!

The KB-2 was one member of this stable. Solid Mahogany body with the neck being a 3 piece sandwich of Mahogany on each side of a Maple stringer. We have the whacked out ‘shark-fin’ shape bevelled and carved on all edges. All decked out in a lovely dark tobacco or brown burst finish.

There are plenty of chips and scrapes in the finish but nothing of of consequence or of structural concern. It has a clean C shaped neck that is very comfortable to play, has good frets, (may have been re-fretted at some point), a 30” scale with a zero fret, smooth original tuners and headstock logo. It has the bass version of the famous 4x2 headstock, ie. 3x1 and the plain aluminium pickguard so it pre-dates the introduction of the striped ones.

Two ‘square pole’ pickups. The aluminum pick guard, a switch and a Vol pot for each pickup and a Master Tone pot. The bridge has basic adjustment for height and intonation. The guitar, aside from some new wiring, pots and jack, is original.

The guitar came with flatwounds but they were long scale strings and starting to unravel at the peg so I have installed a set of the correct, short-scale, GHS precision flats so you are good to go.

I reckon this bass is up for anything you may want to throw at it. Great thuddy woody sound. I’ll try and get a demo posted.

It comes with a soft case and will be boxed and packed very well for shipping.
