Description
Jack Laird and his wife Peggy emigrated to N.Z. in 1959.
In 1964 Laird opened the Waimea Pottery. It became a magnet for aspiring young potters. Jack established a five year apprenticeship scheme for them.
The Waimea Pottery became successful at once. This was partly because there were still strict import controls on goods coming into N.Z.
In 1977 Laird established the Richmond Pottery which concentrated on table wares and was mechanised. He was also a designer / consultant for domestic wares to Temuka. For example, he was responsible for their ' Riverstone ' wares which were highly successful.
Jack Laird died in 2009.
This glossy, orb vase is 11 cm in height with a maximum diameter of 11 cm. It has a glossy glaze of various browns.
When Jack first shaped it, it may not have sat very evenly, so it looks as though he reshaped the bottom edge by hand before it went into the kiln.
This is an unusual piece made by one of N.Z. 's most experienced and respected potters - a legend within the Nelson area.
It is in very good condition with no faults.
The starting price of $25.00 is the reserve.
If you are interested in New Zealand Pottery it may pay to keep an eye on our site for the next few weeks as we shall be offering some interesting items. We like to sell our listings, so hopefully our prices will not be unrealistic.

THE FOLLOWING IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE NOTE that both the rural and non rural courier quotes are the cheapest available (ex Christchurch) from Aramex Couriers but YOU MUST check with THEM as to whether THEY consider your address to be URBAN or RURAL and WILL DELIVER. They can have quite different ideas which may (probably will) differ from yours! For example: Christchurch to Ashburton is considered Canterbury delivery, Christchurch to Timaru is considered Rest of South Island delivery, Christchurch to some parts of Kaiapoi is rural!!
They will not deliver to P.O. Boxes.
