This was thought to be a Gottfried Lindauer but experts have said that is is likely the work of an artist who was a Lindauer admirer or student of the Art School in the early 1900's. Named An Ancient Warrior on the back with the date period given 1839 - 1916. Re-varnished in 1983. The canvas is in pretty good condition, there are a few repairs that have been carried out in the past that you may see to the left of the warriors face. We have moved and downsized so this lovely piece no longer fits.
