Description
This piece was originally acquired through auction 30 years ago. It has been in storage since then as it was purchased for a new showroom that never actually eventuated.
It depicts the rich cultural heritage of Maoridom. As we decode these symbols, it showcases a story woven into the fabric of Maori tradition, to be retold through the timeless language of art.
The measurements are; 1290 mm length 950 mm height
Has damage to the board it is attached to. This was done prior to our purchase. The panels or painted panels are placed onto of the backing board. There is some minor damage on one of the panels - we have been quoted to repair and replace the backing board …I personally envisage the painting being reframed with a white background to really enhance and add another dimension to this stunning painting.
Two panels sit either side of the center panel. These panels could be removed from the wooden frame- which is extremely heavy and remounted on a more aesthetically appealing frame to enhance its design and overall appearance.

Hi could you please put some more photos up of the damage to the front of the work. Also do you have any information about the artist. Thankyou l********8 (817 • 8:48 pm, Sun, 12 May )Hi thanks for the question- I will update photos tomorrow morning, I am selling on behalf of an elderly couple. I have been advised that Ayers appears to have been a painter since the late 1940’s and that this work is a significant departure from his usual painting style - and may have been a piece commissioned by a NZ entity for display in their atrium. Sometimes Councils sell these works of art when they redesign or after a merger, find them surplus to needs. minnie888 (9 • Sunday, 12 May 2024 )Thankyou l********8 (817 • 9:35 pm, Sun, 12 May )Updated now thanks very much minnie888 (9 • Sunday, 12 May 2024 )
