Chinese Export Roll Top Lap Desk, Asian Hardwoods with ebony and brass mounts/ brass inlay as per pics with brass laid on both sides ( ends ). Pivoting handle on lower draw but no key for the lock.

Single lower drawer that when opened reveals a fitted interior, sloped writing surface and "pop-up" storage compartment with tambour doors/drawers/concealed lower compartment and small pop outs.

Unfortunately this was restored in 1985 so has some lost patina.

Used by a family member in the early 1930’s, static display since 1985.

No markings.

Circa 1860 - all post 1860 seem to have brass fixed to the ends as this one has.

Really a very nice piece - quite heavy for a lap desk!
