Description

Extremely rare French dessert pear variety which hasn't been available in NZ for years. There are only 5 left of the 20 we propagated last year. Subsequently I will be raising the start price progressively again to $90 as the planting season comes closer.

The D'Anjou pear, sometimes referred to as the Beurré d'Anjou or simply Anjou, is a short-necked cultivar of French Origin. This is a late ripening, medium sized longish shaped pear with a deep reddish-purplish skin and prominent russet patches. Quite stunning to see them hang amongst the green leaves. It has yellowish white juicy flesh that is highly flavoured, luscious and sweet - the buerre is French for "butter", and bears heavily and regularly. Pollination by any other variety of our pears.

Plan to plant D’Anjou pear trees in the spring when the tree is still dormant. Select a site that is in full sun, at least 6 hours per day, with well-draining soil with a pH of 6.0-7.0. You can either plant these now or keep for a year in the bags for good root development.

We have only 5 of these trees available now.

Our pears have been professionally grafted and come in PB28 bags to allow ideal root development in a mix of organic compost, topsoil and potting mix.

Please note that although they are currently about 0.8-1.4 m they are on Pyrus rootstock for full size trees.

Please expect a significant courier charge if you require delivery to the North Island.
