Description
Gorgeous print from iconic pet photographer, Richard Stacks (b. 1930, d. 2015) Stacks began his career in photojournalism but a move to California saw him develop his reputation as, arguably, the most respected pet photographer of the late 20th Century. His cat calendars were particularly well-known in the 1990s. This photo shows a very cute kitten checking its reflection in a vanity mirror. Many of the kittens depicted by Stacks are described as "Siamese" but I am more inclined to think this one is a seal-point birman. It has all the hallmarks of a 1980s print - including a deliberately hazy effect in the photo and a classic slim-line gold frame. It certainly has an element of kitsch - but it's super-cute kitsch! The print is in good condition - vibrant colour shows it hasn't been exposed to a lot of UV. There is some foxing on the cardboard backing - none on the photo itself. And a small ding in the frame at the back - not noticeable when hung. The print measures 51cm × 41cm, including the frame.
