German bone glue in barleys, 100g For Gilders and Artists

German Knochenleim bone glue in barleys, used to create a strong bond between gold leaf and gesso layers.

What you need to create gesso by mixing some of this glue with artist plaster.

Also artist first choice for missing with paint

1. Add 1 part of glue and 5 parts of cold water and leave to soak for about 15h.
2. The following day add a further 4-5 parts of cold water to the mix and put the mixure in a double boiler and heat slowly until all the particles are dissolved.
3. Do not over heat the mixure.
4. Once all the air pubbles have disappeared, leave the mixture to cool down and then its ready to be used.
5. After use, put the remaining mixure in a refrigerator to last longe, do not use the mixure after 7 days. for up to 10 days.

There are substances in animal tissue from which glue can be extracted, particularly in the skin and bones. These can be extracted by boiling. The carrier of these substances is the collagen protein that is available in the animal body as scaffold protein cloth.

Through heat action the water-insoluble collagen changes into the water-soluble gluten protein. The gluten gives the glue its adhesive & bonding strength.

This course of events applies to all glues obtained from animal tissue, therefore one mentions skin, bone and fish glues also gluten glues.
