Beginning with a section on how to prepare clay for working, the second part of the book tells you, with the help of detailed text and sequences of illustrations, how to go about the forming processes - pinching, coiling, slab building, modelling, making cast pottery from plaster moulds and throwing. The third and fourth parts deal with pottery in more depth, showing, for example, how to calculate glaze formulas, how to mix and apply glazes and how to fire pottery. Then all the major decoration processes are dealt with, including agate ware, inlay, slip trailing, feathering, marbling, sprigging, modelled and impressed decoration, gold and platinum lustres, slip painting and under glaze and over glaze painting.
