The M1 ultra is the equivalent of having two M1 maxes working together - it was the fastest money could buy, before the release of the M2 version.

You're still getting perhaps 80% of the CPU performance of the current M2 ultra (in both single-core and multithreaded), according to the benchmarks I've just looked up:

I'll let you make your own comparisons, but they are fairly close for CPU (and not quite so close for GPU).

I speak from experience, since I'm selling because I upgraded to an M2 Mac Pro - I needed the latter for expandibility (which I paid dearly for!), but the performance difference was NOT night-and-day.

If all this benchmark stuff is too technical for you ... then let's just say this is a very nice, very fast machine, and relatively new machine, and is still covered by AppleCare+, meaning Apple will take care of things in the highly unlikely event anything goes wrong :-)
