Description
Large scale architectural proposal illustration of the Dominion museum National art gallery and campanile.
One of 3 such illustrations I recovered from under a house many years ago.
Another of the drawings bears a matching but slightly more complete label that says Grierso… likely the label for Grierson, Aimer and Draffin who were an influential Auckland practice that is best known for their winning entries in the Wellington Citizen’s War Memorial (Cenotaph) and Auckland War Memorial Museum design competitions. The partnership was formed in 1922 by Hugh Cresswell Grierson (1886-1953), Kenneth Walter Aimer (1891-1960) and Keith Draffin.
The National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum (Former), completed in 1936, has outstanding historical significance as the home for nearly 60 years of a significant number of New Zealand's national treasures. Notable architects Gummer and Ford won the contract to design the building through a national competition. Their design is regarded as one of the best examples of Stripped Classical architecture in New Zealand.
As can be seen it the photos they have been stored under a house and would ideally be professionally cleaned and restored before framing.
Large size measures 113 cm x 90 cm
