Published by Reed. Wellington. ., 1961- 3rd edition of the 1936 original. VIII, 408pp, plus 32 pages with 121 b/w illustrations. Fp: Rigs of sailing vessels. This was the third edition of the comprehensive listing of shipping lost on or near the New Zealand coast from the first dated wreck in 1795, with the last major loss reporterd in this edition that of the coaster Holmglen in November 1959. (The first edition of ". Shipwrecks" was published in 1936 and the second in 1951.)
This third edition has become quite scarce. As well as listing shipping lost on a year by year basis there is also a locality index giving place, date and name of ship, plus an extended general index. B/w illustrations throughout, mainly photos with some art for early losses, the frontis consists line drawings of various sailing vessel rigs.
