Hardcover. Dust jacket is in poor condition (see photo). Numerous tape stains on the end papers. minor foxing to edges There are marker pen short notes on three pages. Slightly below average condition.

From the blurb on the dust-jacket: The story is in four main parts: the discovery and peopling of the land by the Maori, leading to the departure of the Takitimu canoe and the other canoes of the great migration some six centuries ago, with a record of their landfalls; settlement of the Ngati Kahungunu tribe; the history of certain leaders of the Wairoa people in more recent times, and the facts concerning the building of the Takitimu House; appendixes relating to important charms, proverbial sayings, interpretation of dreams and signs, and the almanac, which were in common use by the people." Includes short biographies of Carroll, Pomare, and Rev. Tamihana Huata.
