Description
Beck is based on historical injustices in Canada in the early 1900's. It chronicles the hardships experienced by an orphan boy, part African American and part British, who is shipped off from his vile and overcrowded church orphanage to a similar place in Canada. On arrival, he endures a great deal of abuse, both racial and sexual, and runs away. During his travels through the US, Beck experiences more compassion from those forced into a life of crime than he ever found in the priesthood. He learns many life skills during his various adventures and finishes up caring for horses in a community run by Grace, a part native American, part white woman. As an outcome of symbolic and ritualistic dreams by Grace’s mother, aptly named Straight Speaking, Beck is welcomed into a marriage relationship with Grace and finds the home and family he has been seeking.
