The smaller Ono is a Japanese carpenters axe used for trimming trees and splitting timber. As can be seen in the photo it has a long blade that is recessed so that one hand can be held just behind the blade for fine work and for smoothing timber. It has a laminated blade with a hardened centre contained within two softer outer layers.

This Ono has on overall length of 37cm and a blade length of 11 cm. the blade is tapered from 0 cm at the cutting edge to 2.2 cm at the top of the head. It is in good condition overall . Don't know what the age is but it is old. I used to cut with it and found it a joy to behold.
