The Ono is a Japanese carpenters axe used for cutting down trees and making lumber. As can be seen in the photo it has a long blade that is recessed so that one hand can be held right over the blade for fine work and for smoothing timber. It has a laminated blade with a hardened centre contained within two softer outer layers.

This Ono has on overall length of 47cm and a blade length of 12 cm. the blade is tapered from 0 cm at the cutting edge to 3 cm at the top of the head. It is in good condition overall with a small split in the handle behind the blade. This does not affect the structural strength of the tool. Don't know what the age is but it is old. I used to cut with it and found it a joy to behold.
