Description
There has always been a segment of British society that particularly enjoys lavatorial humour.
This type of humour was hugely popular amongst postcard manufacturers who could produce images that appealed to this baser segment of society.
The First World War of course gave them a huge swathe of material to exploit and anything that ridiculed the enemy was bound to go down well.
This postcard is hardly subtle, depicting a small child urinating into a German officer's spiked helmet or "Pickelhaube"
This sort of humour was still popular twenty five years later when there was a range of chamber pots with Hitler’s face in the bottom of them so the owner could defecate on the face of the enemy…again there were elements of society who took great pleasure in the baser forms of humour!
Subtle it is not, but it does have a certain charm to it…
