Octavo, First Edition- Coloured embossed original full cloth, Illustrated on front board and spine as shown. xiv, 430 pp., with illustrations in b/w on 24 plates and 2 folding maps, a well preserved copy.. slight foxing to frontis plate tissue guard as shown and it is loose at top. Slight foxing to page edges, common with a title of this age
Synopsis Pember Reeves, William, 1857-1932 Politician, historian, poet, high commissioner, banker. Became editor of his father's weekly paper, the Canterbury Times, in 1885. He was Liberal Member of Parliament 1887-1895 for St Albans and then the City of Christchurch. From 1891 he held portfolios for Education, Justice and Labour. In 1889 he also became editor of the Lyttelton Times. Was High Commissioner to London 1896-1908. Wrote several works including `Some Historical notes of communism and socialism' and 'The Long white cloud - Ao Tea Roa'(1898) a history of New Zealand.
