This is another of the rare examples from the little estate Museum items and is a Victorian Chinese portable pendant Buddha that was able to be worn or carried from place to place from mining and Kauri diggers camps. The estate notes mention a Chinese man Choie Sew Hoy in Central Otago who supplied provisions & equipment to miners on the goldfields and his sons Choie Kum Yok 1855 - 1932 and Choie Kum Poy 1869 -1942 who moved North to the gum fields to market supplies to the gum diggers for their father and the notes say that Choie Kum Poy owned this portable Buddha pendant that has some sort of green stone or agate Buddha inside sitting on tiny pieces of Kauri amber/gum which travelled around with them so it is dated around Circa 1880's , I am listing it as gilded as I cant find any gold stamps on it and it has a tiny ruby gem set in the pendant top piece, it measures almost 1.1/2 inches high and just under 1 inch wide across the middle and 1/4 inch in thickness, and was bought at an Auckland auction of Kauri gum digger and gold miners items in the 1960's for the Museum miniatures cabinet of Kauri amber/gum art this this is one of those pieces and certainly a rare unique item.
