Description
Genuine antique Japanese wakizashi
Mei- Yasumitsu Shortened suriage. Rolling temper showing good details. mokume-itame hada. Intact boshi with no turn back. Many scratches, couple small rust spots. Nothing active. Tsuka is old, lacquered no rayskin. Bamboo menuki. Iron kashira. Shakudo fuchi. Tsuba iron samurai relief. Faces are gone. Tsuba has side to side movement when mounted. Kozuka seed/gourd withmore modern monosteel kogatana. Saya looks to have been re-lacquered at some point. Iron kojiri. Japanese silk sageo. Total length 635mm Cutting edge 450mm Old polish. There were a few Yasumitsu and apart from a Taisho smith, the last was 1673. The earliest was the 1300s. It would be safe to say then that this blade pre dates 1673. The tang patina shows this clearly, narrowing it down further is beyond me. Has a nice feel to hand. The scratches/rust I believe do not detract from it's appeal. Many different photos with different lights. Dark with the flash etc. Any further photos or info please ask and I'll try to accommodate. Part of a well cared for collection.
