Description

Great Victorian Cast Iron Kettle used by early settlers –True Museum piece – for you now ?

We offer today a great reminder of times past, long ago, with this great example of English craftsmanship more than a century ago, a true museum piece from Victorian times, used here by early settlers, now looking for another good home… could it be yours ? Or a museum ?

This antique beauty was made in Wolverhampton, in the centre of England’s ‘Black Country’, by T&C Clark & Co, a foundry which was founded way back in 1795 and soon become one of the largest in the Midlands with their quality and lasting workmanship.

This solid beauty certainly shows its age with the rust inside and at its base. It is a might kettle indeed, weighing almost 10 kg. It was designed to hold 4 gallons of water. The swing handle and attached hook were used to move it over an open fire to have hot water all the time, facilitated by that brass tap/fountain or spigot to have safe access to hot water, even when the kettle was right on top of the fire. Well those were the days. Must see whether I can find a photo or drawing on internet to show its use.

Both the lid and the base show the manufacturer’s markings. This beauty stands 35 cm tall and measures 27 cm across at it base. The tap is 19 cm long.

And the really good news is this beauty can be yours soon for display as is or for the expert with the right time and skills to restore it to its original use and beauty.. Happy bidding.

Please note that payment is due within three working days and that this beauty must be picked by yourself, family or strong friends.

Ps When time and weather permit why not check out our other goodies here on TradeMe, some strange indeed, some just delightful.
