Description

Handmade Silk 'sampler' map made based on the original Captain Cook's navigation maps, made between 1783-1823! This is a surviving example of the delicate and beautiful handwork of Georgian era ladies, primarily used to display their needlework skills and educate on 'global' knowledge. Next best place to find such a map is Te Papa museum and one in Auckland museum. These are rare finds, rarer to come to market and complete. Better than the one in the Met museum, I've currently found two for sale in UK for £2500, £5500.

I won't do it justice in the history compared to NZ Author Vivien Caughley who researched and wrote a great piece on these.

This depicts a double Hemisphere cartography of the New World and Cooks Endeavour tracks. Such a historical documentation of a time when Australia was referred to as New Holland still as embroidered!

Has had previous professional conservatorship in Kent UK from where it's from and newly Professionally preserved, newly framed in an more fitting bold look, does this art proud.

This deserves a new home of absolute appreciation, either museum or serious collector. Now's your chance.
