Description
"The Golden Age of Air Racing". The five aircraft in the series are all diecast with their original boxes with specialised packaging. To be sold as a set. All in excellent condition, showing superb original detailing. Details are as follows:
- Gee Bee "Supersportser" - scale 1/43. Raced by the famous Jimmy Doolittle achieving 300mph in the early 1930's.
- Wedell-Williams Racer - scale 1/48. Raced alternately by Jim Haizlip and his wife Mary. "92" achieved 255mph in 1932 flown by Mary using 100 octane fuel for the first time.
- Bellanca "Skyrocket" - scale 1/44. Classified as the world's best airplane in 1922 after entering three major performance contests and winning them all. This aircraft had a slight mishap once and the undercarriage has been glued back on.
- Laird 400 Racer - scale 1/25. Called the "Super Solution" designed and built for the Cleveland Speed Foundation in 1931.
- Lockheed Orion - scale 1/32. A product of the "Vega", the Orion was made from stressed plywood, with retractable landing gear, super-charged Wasp engine and with a top speed of 225mph - first flown in 1931. These aircraft would be a superb addition to an aeronautical collection, toy museum or airport display. Seller located in Ohoka, Canterbury
