America has had tragedy upon tragedy to go along with all the triumphs, but few tragedies have ever had as much ink and visual space and time devoted to them as the downfall of the administration of President Richard Nixon due to the Watergate scandal.

"First of all, the actor playing, Mr. Nixon, was tremendous. I very much expected him to be subpar to Anthony Hopkins' portrayal in the movie "Nixon." No way. Far, far, superior to Hopkins. Lane Smith is the actor's name. This is a Television movie adapted from a book written by Woodward & Berstein. Lane Smith received a Best Actor award from the Golden Globes. He deserved it. Nixon won all states but Massachusetts. McGovern's (The Democrat Candidate) home state, South Dakota, didn't even vote for McGovern. Nixon had it all sewed up.. Due to the coming draft and the fierceness of the war at the time. In three years it was all over. The Vietnam War plays no role in this movie. Though it should as it was affecting Nixon tremendously. From beginning to the end of his presidency. As the title of this movie indicates, it's about only the last 100 days. Before the helicopter ride into Nixon's destiny that we all watched unfold incredulously. The Watergate hearings also play no part in this movie. However, they were the hammer banging on, Nixon, the anvil. Chairman Sam Ervin's, Select Committee to Investigate Campaign Practices, was an incredible thing to watch night after night on TV. I do not hesitate one iota in recommending this movie to movie lovers or those looking for an inside peek at Nixon's predicament and his behavior. Masterfully played by Lane Smith, who I most recall as playing Joe Pesci's opposing attorney (the DA) as Pesci tried to get his cousin off of a murder charge in the deep south.
